General Usage

Welcome to the riyadh bus application and website www.riyadhbus.sa (hereinafter the “App”). This App is provided as a service to our visitors. Because the Terms and Conditions contain legal obligations, please take the time to read them carefully.

For the purpose of these Terms and Conditions, “we”, “us” and “ours” shall always mean the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (“RCRC”) and/or its affiliates, while “you” and “yours” shall mean the user.

We reserve the right to change, modify or otherwise alter these Terms and Conditions at any time. Unless otherwise indicated, amendments will become effective immediately. Please review these Terms and Conditions periodically. Your continued use of the App following the posting of changes and/or modifications will constitute your acceptance of the revised Terms and Conditions and the reasonableness of these standards for notice of changes. For your information, this page was last updated as of the date at the top of these terms and conditions.

1. Terms and Conditions

1.1 These “darb” card and Bus Application and Website Terms and Conditions” (the “Terms and Conditions”) are effective from March 1st 2023 for all customers.

1.2 These Terms and Conditions are subject to all applicable laws, which means the laws and regulations of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.  The courts of jurisdiction relating to these Terms & Conditions shall be the Saudi courts.

2. Introduction

2.1 These Terms and Conditions are a contract between you, our customer, and us, Royal Commission for Riyadh City, the issuer of darb cards, and operator of the App. By using darb, the App, and/or the Tap-to-Go service, you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions and undertake to work accordingly.

2.2 These Terms and Conditions explain our obligations to you and yours to us. While they apply to all our main services, they may be complemented or changed by particular terms and conditions for certain services which you may use.

2.3 By using the App and our ticket vending machines, you agree to be bound by, and to comply with, these Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree to these Terms and Conditions, you will not be granted access to the App.

2.4 By obtaining a darb card, you represent and warrant that you (i) are at least 18 years of age, or possess parental or guardian consent, and (ii) will comply with these Terms and Conditions.

3. General

3.1 We operate the darb card payment system, the App, and Tap-to-Go services and will ensure that the systems and services are operated with reasonable care, skill, and diligence. If you discover any discrepancies in the usage of your darb card, the App, or the Tap-to-Go service, you should contact us as soon as possible at customercare@riyadhbus.sa or call 19933.

3.2 If any provision of these Terms and Conditions is held to be invalid or unenforceable by a court of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the provision shall be removed (or interpreted, if possible, in a manner as to be enforceable), and the remaining provisions shall be enforced. Headings are for reference purposes only and in no way define, limit, construe or describe the scope or extent of such section. Our failure to act with respect to a breach by you or others does not waive our right to act with respect to the same breach or any subsequent or similar breaches. These Terms and Conditions set forth the entire understanding and agreement between us with respect to the subject matter contained herein and supersede any other agreement, proposals and communications, written or oral, between our representatives and you with respect to the subject matter hereof.

3.3 You agree and confirm that no joint venture, partnership, employment, or agency relationship exists between you and us as a result of these Terms and Conditions or your use of darb cards, the App, or Tap-to-Go services. Our performance of these Terms and Conditions is subject to existing laws and legal processes, and nothing contained herein is in derogation of our obligation to comply with governmental, court and law enforcement requests or requirements relating to your use of the App or information provided to or gathered by us with respect to such use.

4. Obtaining your darb Card

4.1 To use our service related to darb card, you will need to obtain a regular darb card from any ticket vending machine available in the bus stations.

4.2 The following categories of persons are eligible for a 50% discount on all fares upon first issuance of a personalized and registered darb card at a Ticket Vending Station (“TVS”), provided that they satisfy the validation requirements with the necessary documentation:

  1. Minors from 6 to 18 years - National ID or Iqama
  2. University Students - National ID or Iqama and a valid Student ID card issued by a KSA university
  3. Seniors 60 and above years - National ID or Iqama
  4. Persons with disabilities in addition to one companion - National ID or Iqama and Disability “Tashilat” Card or “Aircab” or “Mo’give” Card
  5. Cancer Patient in addition to one companion one companion - National ID or Iqama and Official medical report from Ministry of Health or government hospital
  6. Martyrs’ first degree relatives - National ID or Iqama and Letter from Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defense, National Guard, or “Shahim” Card

4.3 Each darb card cost value is SAR 10, it will show in the bill receipt, it is non-refundable.

4.4 A darb card functions as a digital wallet that can be used to purchase another darb card or to load any other darb card.

4.5 You may register a darb card in your name through any TVS.  Doing so will allow you to deactivate the card in case it is lost and replace it with a new one.

4.6 The darb card is not specific to a user unless registered. You may therefore give prepaid darb cards as a gift to family members, friends, co-workers, employees, or anyone else who uses public transportation. These Terms and Conditions shall apply to all users of darb cards, not only the original purchaser.

4.7 A valid darb card should:

  1. Reflect the specific fare category for which you are eligible (e.g., child, elder or student status);
  2. not be damaged or tampered with; and
  3. lawfully obtained.

5. Using the darb Card

5.1 Each use of the darb card authorizes a deduction of SAR 4 and use of Riyadh buses for a period of two hours. You may take multiple trips within the two-hour period without being charged another fare.

5.2 Children under 6 years old may travel for free and do not need to obtain a darb card, however, we recommend them to be accompanied by adults for their safety and to demonstrate eligibility for this benefit.

5.3 Customers cannot buy a ticket using darb card for another rider at the same time.

6. Card Validity Period and Renewal

6.1 The darb card is valid for 5 years from the date of issuance. This will allow you to plan for the long term and use the card for an extended period without the need to worry about renewing it.

6.2 You may renew your darb card 5 days before or after its expiry to continue using the card without interruption.

6.3 The renewal value of the card is SAR 05, which is non-refundable.

7. Refund darb Card Balance

7.1 Subject to these Terms and Conditions, you may obtain a refund of an unused balance on any darb card that is lost, damaged, faulty, expired, or which you wish to cancel. Only persons with registered darb cards with a balance of SAR 10 or more, and who can demonstrate ownership, may obtain a refund.  Non-registered cards may not be refunded. darb card holders may seek a refund through a TVS. There is a service fee to process a refund.  This fee is currently set at 5 SAR but may increase at our discretion.

7.2 If you believe that there is an error or an overcharge on your darb card, you can request a refund. All refund requests to be sent to “customercare@riyadhbus.sa” and will be reviewed and, if eligible, approved within 21 days. This ensures that cardholders can get their refunds in a timely manner without delay. Additionally, once the refund is approved, you will receive an e-mail confirmation to allow you to track the progress of their refund request. Also, for an overcharge refund request, approval will take up to 21 days if further verification is required.

8. Responsibly Using your darb Card and the App

8.1 Please use reasonable security precautions to prevent your darb card from being damaged or tampered with by an unauthorized user. You are similarly advised to store the password to the App in a secure location; the software is also enabled with password protection measures. We will charge a purchase fee to those wishing to exchange a darb card damaged or altered through delamination, bending, cutting, breaking, graffiti or attachment of materials and/or objects on the card by any means.

8.2 You must not use, or allow anyone to use, your darb card for any illegal purposes.

8.3 You should only use your darb card on the Bus or bus station and tap on card readers that show the darb acceptance logo. You must not tap your darb card at readers that do not show the darb acceptance logo as this may cause damage to your darb card and/or a loss its balance. We recommend not keeping it near any bank card or magnetic card that could damage it.

8.4 We will ask you to co-operate with us and, if appropriate, the police, in recovering your darb card if i) it is lost or stolen; ii) you possess a darb card that appears to have been tampered with or is counterfeit; or iii) as required by prevailing law.

8.5 Our staff and authorized representatives of our approved service providers shall have the right to inspect your darb card and items incorporating darb technology, including their data, as circumstances may require.

9. Proper Use of your darb Card and the App

9.1 You should not carry more than one darb card or a darb card with another contactless smartcard together in close proximity as they may interfere with one another. If you do so, it will be at your own risk. We shall not be responsible for any damage to the darb card or the electronic devices the functions of which have been affected in connection with the use of your darb card. We reserve our right not to refund an amount that has been deducted incorrectly as a result of your carrying more than one darb card or a darb card with another contactless smartcard together in close proximity.

9.2 We shall not be responsible for any personal injury and/or property loss or damage caused by your acts that are noncompliant with these Terms and Conditions or your inappropriate or unauthorized use of your darb card and/or the App.

9.3 You shall indemnify us against all actions, proceedings, liabilities, claims, loss, damages and reasonable costs and expenses (including all reasonable legal fees) which may be taken against us or which we may suffer, sustain or incur howsoever arising out of or in connection with your inappropriate or unauthorized use of your darb card or the App or any non-compliance with these Terms and Conditions.

9.4 Nothing in these Terms and Conditions shall exclude or restrict your liability for any damages resulting from your negligence, or liability for fraud.

10. Malfunction

10.1 If an undamaged darb card malfunctions due to no fault of your own, we will arrange refund of the card balance, if any, stored on such a darb card and a replacement of the darb card.

 11. New Services

11.1 We may provide you with new services associated with your darb card and/or the App from time to time, and these new services will be governed by these Terms and Conditions, as amended from time to time.

12. Force Majeure

12.1 We shall not be in breach of these Terms and Conditions nor liable for delay in performing, or failure to perform, any of our obligations, if such delay or failure results from events, circumstances or causes beyond our reasonable control. In such circumstances the time for performance shall be extended by a period equivalent to the period during which performance of the obligation has been delayed or failed to be performed.

13. Communicate with us

13.1 Please contact us through the customer service interface available on the website for support and notification of anomalies or incidents in relation to your use of darb card and/or the App. Communications from the App shall be sent to you through your mobile number registered for SMS (short messaging service) or other electronic means. Communications from RCRC shall be made via secure channels (such as our website at www.riyadhbus.sa or call 19933). Any message alleged to be sent on our behalf to you via any other means is not reliable.

14. Privacy and Use of Data

14.1 Please review our Privacy Policy, which also governs your visit to the App, to understand our practices.  Subject to the Saudi Personal Data Protection Law issued pursuant to Royal Decree No. (M/19) dated 9/2/1443 AH, we shall have the right to use the users’ data and information for research purposes, statistics and other commercial and non-commercial purposes.

15. Linked Sites

15.1 The App may contain links to independent third-party Websites ("Linked Sites”). These Linked Sites are provided solely as a convenience to our visitors. We are not responsible for and do not endorse the content of such Linked Sites.

16. Forward Looking Statements

16.1 All materials reproduced on the App, up to our best knowledge, are accurate as of the original date of publication or filing. The fact that a document is available on the App does not mean that the information in such document has not been modified or superseded by events or by a subsequent document or filing. While we shall endeavor to maintain the App with current information and forms, we shall not be liable for any errors or losses arising from our failure to present the most current information available as of the date you access the App.

17. Disclaimer of Warranties and Limitation of Liability

17.1 The App may contain inaccuracies and typographical errors. We do not warrant the accuracy or completeness of the materials or the reliability of any advice, opinion, statement or other information displayed or distributed through the App. You expressly understand and agree that: (i) your use of the App, including any reliance on any such opinion, advice, statement, memorandum, or information contained herein, shall be at your sole risk; (ii) the App is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis; (iii) we disclaim all warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including, but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, workmanlike effort, title and non-infringement; (iv) we make no warranty with respect to the results that may be obtained from the App, the products or services advertised or offered or merchants involved; (v) any material downloaded or otherwise obtained through the use of the App is done at your own discretion and risk; and (vi) you will be solely responsible for any damage to your computer system or for any loss of data that results from the download of any such material.

17.2 You understand and agree that under no circumstances, including, but not limited to, negligence, shall we be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, punitive or consequential damages that result from the use of, or the inability to use, any of our sites or materials or functions on any such site, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. The foregoing limitations shall apply notwithstanding any failure of essential purpose of any limited remedy.

18. Our Proprietary Rights

18.1 The App and its contents are intended solely for the user’s personal, non-commercial use. Except as expressly provided, nothing within the App shall be construed as conferring any license under our or any third party's intellectual property rights, whether by estoppel, implication, waiver, or otherwise. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, you acknowledge and agree that all content available through and used to operate the App and its services is protected by copyright, trademark, patent, or other proprietary rights. You agree not to: (i) modify, alter, or deface any of the trademarks, service marks, trade dress (collectively "Trademarks") or other intellectual property made available by us in connection with the App; (ii) hold yourself out as in any way sponsored by, affiliated with, or endorsed by us, or any of our affiliates or service providers; (iii) use any of the Trademarks or other content accessible through the App for any purpose other than the purpose for which we have made it available to you; (iv) defame or disparage us, our Trademarks, or any aspect of the App; and (v) adapt, translate, modify, decompile, disassemble, or reverse engineer the App or any software or programs used in connection with it or its products and services.

18.2 The framing, mirroring, scraping or data mining of the App or any of its content in any form and by any method is expressly prohibited.

19. Indemnity

19.1 By using the App you agree and undertake to indemnify us and affiliated entities and hold them harmless from any and all claims and expenses, including (without limitation) attorneys’ fees, arising from your use of the App, your use of the products and services, or your submission of ideas and/or related materials to us or from any person's use of any ID, membership or password you maintain with any portion of the App, regardless of whether such use is authorized by you.

20. Copyright

20.1 All content on the App is copyrighted.

21. Intellectual Property Infringement Claims

21.1 It is our policy to respond expeditiously to intellectual property infringement. We will promptly process and investigate notices of alleged infringement and will take appropriate actions under Saudi laws, including Patents Law, Layout Designs of Integrated Circuits, Plant Varieties, and Industrial Designs, issued by Royal Decree No. M/ 27 dated 29/5/1425 AH, as amended by Council of Ministers Resolution No. 536 dated 10/19/1439 AH. Notices of claimed infringement should be directed to:

22. Arabic Version Prevails

22.1 We have provided an English language translation of these Terms and Conditions for reference only. If there is any inconsistency or discrepancy between the English version and the Arabic version, the Arabic version shall prevail.

23. Place of Performance

23.1 The App is controlled, operated, and administered by us from our office in Riyadh 11614 Saudi Arabia. We make no representation that materials at the App are appropriate or available for use at other locations outside of the Saudi Arabia and access to them from territories where their contents are illegal is prohibited. If you access the App from a location outside of the Saudi Arabia, you are responsible for compliance with all local laws.

24. Tickets

24.1 All Darb card holders, and riyadh bus registered users can benefit from this service.

24.2 Prices are based on the service required.

24.3 Tickets can be purchased from the Ticket Vending Machines at the bus stations or through the riyadh bus app via your smart device.

24.4 A maximum of one ticket type can be purchased for the set period, same ticket timing can be repurchased or new timing option can be purchased upon expiry of the previous ticket. 

24.5 Once a ticket is purchased through the app and payment is completed, the QR code will appear; then once the ticket is activated; ticket expiry date will appear below QR code.

24.6 For tickets purchased through the app; after making payment, passengers will be able to control the start date of the ticket by activating the “Yes” option on activate pass then the QR code will appear and ticket validity will be visible below the code.  Upon boarding the bus scan the QR code below the check in terminal at entrance gate of the bus.  For darb card; activation starts from the time the card is swiped at the check in terminal at entrance gate on the bus upon boarding. 
  
24.7 In addition to clause 5.1; the validity of the 3 day, 7 day, and 30 day tickets purchases with the darb card begins from the moment the card is swiped on the check in terminal, but for those tickets purchases from the app, its upon activation the “Yes” option then the QR code will appear and from that moment the validity starts.  Bus passes are not based on 24-hour timing, they expire at the end of the bus operational day.

24.8 Purchased tickets are non-refundable partially or in full.

24.9 Passengers are not entitled to any refund for the value of the days which transportation is for free by the Commission, free days can not be added to the validity period of the tickets or be combined with any campaigns or free offers (this is applicable for any and all ticket and pass forms)

24.10 Tickets can not be resold 

24.11 Discounted tickets can not be resold or used by ineligible persons within the categorization set for the approved discounts.
